Expansion Project Moving Forward

The Javits Center’s expansion project is less than two years away from completion as construction is moving along at a steady pace.

The steel structure is being erected across the construction site, providing the framework for the new event and meeting spaces at the north end of the convention center’s campus along 11th Avenue on Manhattan’s West Side.

In the meantime, our sales and marketing teams are communicating with event producers and meeting plans about new potential events that would take advantage of the new spaces, once they are open in 2021.

“More events means more economic activity and more jobs for New Yorkers,” said Alan Steel, President and CEO of the Javits Center. “The skills and speed of the construction workforce leading this historic project are remarkable, and I would like to thank Governor Cuomo, Empire State Development and the New York Convention Center Development Corporation for their strong support in making this vision a reality.”

The expansion, led by Lendlease Turner and tvsdesign, will add a total of 1.2 million square feet of space, including back-of-house areas, that will generate hundreds of millions of dollars in additional economic activity.
