The Javits Center’s green roof was honored at the 14th Annual Green Roof and Wall Conference in Washington, D.C. on November 14. Peter Olney, AIA, of FXFowle, the architectural firm that led the Javits Center’s renovation and green roof design, accepted the Award of Excellence, along with our Energy and Sustainability Manager Rebecca Marshall. Since its completion in 2014, the 6.75-acre green roof has become the signature feature of the renovation, helping to reduce the building’s energy consumption by 26%. The green roof also has become a wildlife sanctuary, serving as a home to 17 bird species, five bat species and 300,000 honey bees.
