The Javits Center hosted the election night event for Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for the President of the United States of America, bringing international attention to the six-block convention center, New York City and the New York State. With more than 1,000 media representatives packing its halls on Tuesday, November 8, the Javits Center on Manhattan’s West Side served as center stage for the night’s highly anticipated election results.
With stages built inside and outside of the building, the historic event featured some of the country’s most notable political leaders and celebrities, from Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and U.S. Senator Charles Schumer to singers Katy Perry and Lady Gaga to actors America Ferrara and Richard Schiff.
“We were very proud to host the Hillary Clinton campaign on Election Night, demonstrating the building’s status as a worldwide destination for the biggest events in business, politics and pop culture,” said Alan Steel, President and CEO of the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, which operates the Javits Center. “With our upcoming expansion, we expect to host even more high-profile events that keep the spotlight on New York and support its hotel, restaurant, tourism and transportation industries.”
For more than two weeks leading up to Election Night, the Javits Center’s staff focused on transforming the Crystal Palace into a one-of-a-kind experience, including the hanging of American Flags throughout the interior, the installation of nearly 11 miles of feeder, CAT 6 and fiber optic cables and the construction of the main stage in the shape of the United States of America. In addition, more than 760 tables and 3,100 chairs were set up throughout the facility for guests.
With six other events in the building during the Crystal Palace preparation, such as the New York City Marathon Expo and Sneaker Con 2016, our employees worked diligently to accommodate all of our customers and make sure the needs of every exhibitor and attendee were met.
“We’ve received numerous compliments from across the world on the way the Javits Center looked and operated,” said Mr. Steel. “On Election Night, the building never looked more dynamic, and every one of our people performed above and beyond expectations, making sure the delivery of services to all of our customers was done in an impeccable fashion.”
