Governor Andrew M. Cuomo recognized the Javits Center and six other organizations at the 12th Annual New York State Environmental Excellence Awards for their state-of-the-art programs and commitment to environmental sustainability, social responsibility and economic viability.
The Javits Center was honored for its comprehensive sustainable transformation into one of the nation’s busiest and greenest convention centers. With a nearly 7-acre green roof, new bird-friendly glass panels and other sustainable upgrades, the facility has reduced energy consumption by 26% and now serves as a habitat for area wildlife.
“These organizations make it clear that by using innovative green programs, we can achieve strong environmental goals while growing the economy," Governor Cuomo said. “They are a role model for businesses across the state looking to reduce their environmental impact, and I encourage everyone to learn more about what they can do to help protect our beautiful natural resources for generations to come."
