As a part of the ongoing expansion project, the West 39th Street swing space will be officially closed to all event-related activity on July 1, 2017. Customers should plan accordingly and consult with our Event Solutions team to ensure a safe and efficient move-in and move-out process for upcoming events at the Javits Center. As a reminder, Javits North, the Link and the loading docks were turned over to the design-build team, Lend Lease Turner, in mid-May. As a result, equipment load in for the concourse will now be conducted through the shoe shine door located on the north side of the covered roadway. All equipment load in through this door must be reviewed and approved by Javits Center in advance so as not to disrupt other events. Other expansion-related updates include:
- Lend Lease Turner has started soil testing and test pits on the expansion site which includes Javits North, West 39th Street and the north swing space. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
- Level 3 ramps and loading docks will be closed on Thursday, July 27 through Wednesday, August 2, 2017, for the installation of grade beam across the Level 3 ramp, as well as the repaving of a portion of the Level 3 ramp.
- Work has begun on the installation of the new Port Authority gate off of 12th Ave and West 38th Street. Eight concrete panels have been removed to create an opening for the Port Authority to access the west vent building. Temporary construction fencing will be in place through end of first quarter 2018.
As part of a recent Service Advisory issued to customers, effective July 1, 2017, all Javits Center employees, contractors, vendors and business partners will not have access to the event floor/front of house through the 2D corridors during event activity. To improve the customer experience and enhance back-of-house security, customers wishing to access the administration offices will be given card access as part of their move-in kit when on site. Access will also be available via the intercom system located at the rear of the north and south 2D corridors. During business hours, the intercom system is connected to the administration reception desk and the administration security desk will respond after hours.
