Free tours of the Javits Center’s green roof are available now through October! To register for a tour, please visit our website and fill out the registration form. Group tours are welcome, but please indicate how many people are expected to attend.
As the second largest of its kind in the United States, the green roof spans 6.75 acres and serves as a home to more than 17 bird species, five bat species and 300,000 honey bees. Completed in 2014 as a part of an extensive building-wide renovation, the green roof helps to reduce energy consumption throughout the six-block convention center, insulating the building in the winter and cooling it during the summer. With amazing views of the Hudson River, there is no other tour like it!
“For the past 30 years, the Javits Center has supported New York’s economy by hosting spectacular events, and now we are expanding that mission to support New York’s environment,” said Chief Communications Officer Tony Sclafani. “These tours are a great way to learn about the importance of sustainable building, as well as the impact of our operations on the local economy. For anyone looking for a truly unique experience in New York, this tour is for you.”
