In April, developers broke ground on Vessel, a new giant piece of art that will become the centerpiece of the public square of the new Hudson Yards development.
The 150-foot-tall landmark designed by Heatherwick Studio is being built in Italy, and the first series of massive pieces were installed in mid-April.
The steel structure, which will be able to hold 1,000 visitors at a time, will be constructed with 154 interconnecting flights of stairs, 2,500 individual steps and 80 landings.
Only steps from the Javits Center, Hudson Yards is considered the largest residential development in the history of the United States, and once fully completed, the site will offer thousands of new apartments and hundreds of new restaurants and retail shops.
