CBS This Morning featured the Javits Center in a 4-minute-plus segment about our nearly 7-acre green roof, including interviews with our CEO Alan Steel, New York City Audubon’s Director of Conservation and Science Susan Elbin, Ph. D. and our Chief Engineer Rick Brown!
With a camera crew in tow, veteran broadcast reporter Jim Axelrod toured the green oasis in August, asking questions on how such a modern-day Miracle on 34th St. was created and is maintained on a daily basis.
Since its completion, hundreds of birds – of nearly a dozen species – have been observed on the green roof, including two species that have hatched chicks. We also have bats and bees thriving on the roof – thanks to Susan, Rick and their teams who take special pride in ensuring the success of our very own ecosystem.
“Given the way it’s harboring wildlife and saving energy, you might think of it as a modern-day Miracle on 34th St.,” Axelrod said.
