More than 2,000 items have been donated under the JavitsCares program, a new effort that launched this year to facilitate donations to non-profit organizations throughout the New York region. In coordination with event managers and exhibitors, the program allows materials and goods to be repurposed after the conclusions of events here, such as furniture, food and housewares. Earlier this month, Javits Center staff members facilitated the donation of more than 30 stuffed animals and 200 gift bags to Covenant House New York, an organization dedicated to ending youth homelessness.
“Through JavitsCares and the support of our customers, we are able to give these items a second life and help New Yorkers in need,” said Michael Ruberry, the Javits Center’s Vice President of Set-Up and Event Solutions. “It’s a wonderful feeling to see furniture from the show floor end up in a classroom where teachers and students can put it to good use.”
