Following a comprehensive renovation, the Javits Center is able to control air flow, room temperature and energy consumption at the click of a button – thanks to a state-of-the-art Building Management System. With 840,000 square feet of exhibition space, being able to adjust temperatures in a matter of seconds from a single location can provide beneficial for event managers hosting events throughout the convention center. As a part of the renovation project, hundreds of small temperature sensors and valves were installed throughout the facility, giving Javits Center employees the ability to track, monitor and control the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
“Managing energy and climate control systems throughout the building from one location has become a tremendous asset for our customers,” said Kenneth Sanchez, Vice President of the Facilities Management. “Using sophisticated computer software, our engineers can determine the precise temperatures in any room in the building without ever entering the room itself. It has increased the efficiency of our operations and improved our customer service for all of our events.”
Controlling temperatures also can help conserve energy, and the Javits Center is reducing its energy consumption by 26% thanks to a host of sustainable upgrades, including more than 100 new, energy-efficient HVAC units, energy-efficient lighting and a nearly 7-acre green roof. A new energy dashboard helps Javits Center staff meter and monitor usage from a single location and make adjustments on a daily basis in order to reduce overall energy costs and consumption. With new energy-focused procedures in place, air conditioning, MEP equipment and certain lighting systems are programmed to turn off when events are not open in the building,
