New York Ranked Among Top US Trade Show Cities
New York and the Javits Center, its largest convention center has become a top destination for the most sought-after trade shows in the United States, a new exposition industry study has found.
According to Trade Show News Network (TSNN), New York has reached the No. 3 slot and tied Chicago with the most shows on the Top 250 Trade Show list, a widely regarded, widely read annual industry list compiled by TSNN. Las Vegas held onto the top spot with Orlando finishing No. 2, TSNN said.
New York and Chicago each hosted 21 events on the Top 250 Trade Show list, and It is the first time that New York has ever reached the No. 3 spot since the list was originally developed, according to TSNN.
The accomplishment is a major milestone for the Javits Center, which is nearly half the size of convention centers in Las Vegas and Chicago and receives no tax subsidies for its day-to-day operations.
"Attracting as many top trade shows as convention centers twice as large as our facility reflects our commitment to our customers, the hard work of our dedicated staff and the pure energy and excitement of hosting events in the capital of the world," said Tony Sclafani, Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer for the Javits Center. "With the opening of a new subway station, the High Line and a new expansion project on the horizon, more and more event planners are looking to book their events at the Javits Center and take advantage of its prime location."
In January, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced a new expansion project for the Javits Center that will bring 500,000 square feet of exhibition space on one level, a 60,000 square-foot ballroom, five times more meeting room space and on-site truck marshaling facility. Construction will begin later this year.
"With the buzz surrounding news of the expansion, we expect to be even busier in the years ahead and look forward to staying at the top of TSNN's list," Sclafani said. "Thank you to all of our customers who have made our continued success possible."
For several years, TSNN has produced the TSNN Top 250 Trade Show List, which was original developed by by Tradeshow Week magazine. For the news release and full list of shows, please visit:
